NICHOLAS JONES (Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK)
Nicholas Jones combines an international career as concert and chamber music cellist with the post of Head of Strings at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester. He teaches cello at the Royal Northern College of Music. He is also a regular visitor to the Barratt-Due Institute of Music, Oslo, where he has also taught.
Before taking up his positions in Manchester, Nicholas Jones was cellist of the Bochmann Quartet, with whom he performed, recorded and broadcast for eight years. He was also principal cellist of the English String Orchestra, also frequently performing with them as soloist and director. With the orchestra's Principal Guest Conductor, Yehudi Menuhin, he performed at many of Europe and USA's foremost concert halls and was a frequent visitor to the Gstaad Festival in Switzerland.
From 2001 to 2007, he was a faculty-member of the Bowdoin Festival, USA, performing and teaching as well as appearing in the festival's winter series. In 1987, he founded the Aberystwyth International Music Festival in Wales.
He gives masterclasses internationally, including all the music schools and colleges in St Petersburg, Lithuania, Estonia, Boston, Oslo State Academy, Prague. In the UK at Guildhall, Royal Academy of Music and th Royal College of Music.
