RULES FOR USERS OF THE LIBRARY OF THE ESTONIAN ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND THEATRE


1. General provisions

1.1. The library of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) is a public-service-providing research library.

1.2. The library may be used by natural persons of at least 18 years of age, and legal persons.

1.3. The use of the library’s materials is free of charge. Fees may be charged for other services.

1.4. These Rules shall apply in the main collection of the library of EAMT (Rävala pst 16). The use of the materials in the EAMT Drama School branch of the library shall be co-ordinated with the head of the corresponding structural unit.


2. User registration

2.1. Materials are lent on the basis of a ID card (which can be registered as a library card) or library card which is issued upon registration of the user.

2.2. The library of EAMT has an age limit of 18 years for user registration. The students of the Tallinn Music High School constitute an exception, and may register from the 10th grade. Depending on their status, library users may be granted different rights.

2.3. Library users are registered on the basis of a document with a photo and the personal identification code.

2.4. When registering, the user must fill out and sign a registration form, obliging to adhere to the rules on the use of the library. The library must be informed of any changes in the user’s personal data.

2.5. A fee must be paid for the library card. Subsequent cards are issued at double price.

2.6. Library cards may not be given to third parties.


3. Library services

3.1. Library services are divided into free services and fee-charging services.

  • Free services:
    • on-site use of library materials;
    • lending of library materials (in accordance with the corresponding procedure brought out below);
    • enquiries (at the telephone number +372 6675 751 and e-mail address rmtk@ema.edu.ee);
    • use of electronic databases;
    • inter-library loan for the research work of EAMT Master’s and Doctoral students;
    • basic user training;
    • use of audio and video equipment;
    • use of computers.

  • Fee-charging services:
    • printing;
    • binding;
    • writing to CD from a studio tape or LP. Copying and recording for academic or research purposes may only be carried out in co-ordination with the chief librarian or a person authorised by the chief librarian.

3.2. Fee-charging services are rendered on the basis of the corresponding price list.

3.3. It is possible to use a photocopying machine, scanner and electronic piano in the library.


4. Lending procedures

4.1. The publications on open shelves can be borrowed home, except for:

  • audio and video recordings;
  • publications marked with a red tape;
  • reference books;
  • composers' collected works;
  • facsimiles;
  • bound periodicals (unbound journals can be borrowed for two weeks);
  • library archive materials.

4.2. Persons from outside EAMT may borrow up to 5 items for a period of 1 month, and are not permitted to borrow dictionaries, language study books, philosophy or art books and elementary and secondary school song books.

4.3. Lending procedures for EAMT academic instructors, Doctoral students and piano accompanists:

4.3.1. Maximum number of loans: 40 items.

4.3.2. Term of borrowing: 2 months for books, 3 months for sheet music and 1 semester for study books.

4.3.3. Waiting list registration is available for lent-out materials.

4.3.4. Materials, which are, as a rule, intended for on-site use, may also be borrowed under hourly lending: reference books, composers’ collected works, publications marked with a red tape, archive materials, facsimiles, CD-ROMs, audio and video recordings (CDs, LPs, VHSs, DVDs).

4.3.5. The hourly lending service is available for up to 5 items for a period of 3 hours, but not longer than the opening hours of the library. Materials borrowed under hourly lending one hour before the closing of the library must be returned at least a quarter of an hour after the library opens on the next working day.

4.4. Lending procedures for EAMT Master’s students, Bachelor’s students and staff:

4.4.1. Maximum number of items allowed to be borrowed: 20.

4.4.2. Term of borrowing: 2 months for books, 3 months for sheet music and 1 semester for study books.

4.4.3. Registration on a waiting list is available for lent-out materials.

4.4.4. Materials, which are, as a rule, intended for on-site use, may also be borrowed under hourly lending: publications marked with a red tape, CD-ROMs, CDs and DVDs.

4.4.5. The hourly lending service is available for up to 5 items for a period of 3 hours, but not longer than the opening hours of the library. Materials borrowed under hourly lending one hour before the closing of the library must be returned at least a quarter of an hour after the library opens on the next working day.

4.5. All users may extend the term of borrowing by a maximum of 2 times (unless there is a waiting list for the borrowed item).


5. Internal rules of procedure

5.1. Order and silence must be maintained in the library.

5.2. Outdoor clothes, bags and musical instruments must be left in the cloakroom before entering the library, and mobile phones switched to silent mode.

5.3. Eating and drinking is forbidden on the library premises.

5.4. One audio workplace has been allocated for users from outside EAMT (requires advance registration).

5.5. Users from outside EAMT may use only certain client computers.

5.6. Library materials are lent on the basis of the library card or ID card.

5.7. Unauthorized removal of data carriers and library materials from the library is prohibited.


6. User liability

6.1. Users are forbidden to damage library materials, library equipment and other property. They will be liable for compensating any damage.

6.2. Users shall be held proprietarily liable for the library materials in their possession.

6.3. If the data carrier is damaged or lost, it shall be replaced with an equivalent, or its market value compensated. Tearing out pages, and making notes in the publications is also considered damaging the library property.

6.4. If a musical score is missing the part of a single instrument, the price of the whole set shall be compensated.

6.5. A fine for delay shall be paid for exceeding the term of borrowing:

6.5.1. 1 kroon per day for each unreturned item in case of home loans.

6.5.2. 10 kroons per each delayed hour for each unreturned item in case of hourly lending.

6.6. Users who have debts shall lose their borrowing right until the borrowed items are returned.

6.7. Users who violate the rules on the use of the library are liable to lose their borrowing rights for up to 3 months.


7. Opening hours

7.1. The library is open:

M-F 8:45-19:00
Sat 10:00-15:00

7.2. The library is open 10:00-15:00 on the day before the following national holidays:

January 1 – New Year’s Day
February 24 – Independence Day
Good Friday
June 23 – Victory Day
December 24 – Christmas Eve

as well as

Christmas week
winter school holidays
new students admission

7.3. The library is closed for summer.
